Monalisa Project

Monalisa Project

Active monitoring and isolation from vibrations and earthquakes of art objects

The research project was presented bySapienza Università di Roma, ENEA, Università degli Studi Roma Tre and Somma srl, within the Public call: “Invitation to the Centre of Excellence to apply for second-phase projects – Industrial Research and Development Projects”, funded by Lazio Regional Government and Italian Ministry of University and Research.

The project

The MONALISA project is focused on the experimental development of the seismic isolation technique for its application to art objects and its extension to the protection against vibrations at large, including those generated by road and railway traffic.

The proposed device will be integrated with a monitoring system for a continuous-in-time observation and the generation of alert messages when response thresholds are exceeded.

The project entails the shaking-table tests on a 3D reproduction of the “Sarcophagus of the Spouses” protected by the envisioned devices.
