The activities of the Progetto MONALISA are organised in seven workpackages (WPs).
This WP entails the scientific and administrative coordination of the project.
Hence, it takes care of the interactions between the partners of the project, as well as of those with external institutions such as the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome and the Technological District for Cultural Heritage.
This WP entails the classification of art objects with what regards their vulnerability to vibrations, the definition of a procedure for the acquisition of the geometry of an artefact and its codification for numerical analyses, the implementation of vulnerability analyses.
The WP fosters rapid and contactless procedures, but investigates the details of the case enshrining the Sarcophagus of the Spouses, with reference to its steel structure, the thickness of its box sections and its total weight (including the statue).
This WP entails the design and the production of a device protecting objects of little mass from vibrations induced by both earthquakes and traffic.
The preliminary design of the devices to be applied to the Sarcophagus of the Spouses takes advantage of the vibration measurements performed within the Museum while the tram and train line are running, as well as of the seismic hazard of the site. The produced device will be tested for validation under variable vertical and horizontal loads.
This WP entails the design of the transducers for the dynamic monitoring system in operational conditions of the isolation device. The instrumentation will be functioning for the measurement of time histories of accelerations and derived quantities.
The design of the monitoring system is performed together with the isolation system, in order to get an adequate integration.
The produced system will be tested for validation and completed with a software for the monitoring.
This WP entails the setup of the devices on the case and the definition of the earthquake input. A new steel structure will replace the base of the existing case and a three-dimensional mock-up of the Sarcophagus of the Spouses will be created for shaking table tests.
The tests will be performed at the ENEA Casaccia research centre, hosting two such tables, and will use both traffic and earthquake inputs.
This WP entails the description in terms of frequencies and amplitudes of traffic induced vibrations at the Museum. Velocity measurements will be implemented in the room enshrining the Sarcophagus of the Spouses, while video recordings of the statue will be interpreted resorting to motion magnification.
Moreover, the isolation devices will be installed and validated in the operational environment, by comparing before- and after-intervention acquisitions.
This WP entails the dissemination of results within scientific, cultural and societal contexts. Therefore, the partners will attend to conferences and publish papers.
At the same time a final presentation of the results to the foreign cultural institutions active in Rome will be organised. Finally, in close collaboration with the Museum, several project activities will be presented to the general press.
